How to Make Healthy Granola

Updated: Jun 12, 2018

Granola is a tricky little number, when it comes to stay fit and watching what you eat. some say it has too much sugar- while other say it totally fine. I say that granola is fine as long as you know what's in it. If your are trying to lose weight- watching that sugar is important. In my latest recipe, I am going to share how you can enjoy granola AND keep on track with your fitness goals. Best of all- it's super easy and super delicious !

rolled oats for making granola

Throw 2 cups of your favorite oats into a mixing bowl. Then add 4 teaspoons of organic unfiltered coconut oil. If it is warm in your home, you will notice that the coconut oil has become more liquefied... no worries.

After that, add 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds

1/4 cup Chia Seeds

1/4 cup Flax seeds ( whole or ground)

You can also add your favorite nuts and seeds. Just try not to overwhelm the the mixture with too much- ti won't bind well with the oats

One of my children has a nut allergy- so I omitted nuts in this recipe. However, if you love nuts- go nuts lol ( insert chuckle here)!

Then mix all of the ingredients together. Then mush the coconut oil in with the other ingredients. After that, sprinkle in cinnamon, so that the mixture is adequately covered.

Take a sheet pan and line with parchment paper. If you don't have parchment paper- keep reading. You can still make this wonderful treat. Then spread ingredients evenly onto the pan. Then add 2 tablespoons of honey on the top of the oats. this gives it a nice taste WITHOUT LOAD OF SUGAR that can sabotage those fitness goals.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes until golden brown like the picture above. Take note of the seed to nut ratio. I love to bake this because it make my home smell delightful- an added bonus. Store the remainder in a BPA free plastic baggie or in an air-tight container in the fridge.
