Self-Care Ideas for Women

September is National Self-Care month. So this week, we wanted to give you some ideas to help you add a few self-care routines that will enrich your life and give you a sense of well-being. Self-care has become a buzzword in the recent years, but it has been in practice for a while. For example, going for a Sunday drive with the family, or going for a walk after dinner are a couple of examples of integrating self-care into one's day. However, many of us have gotten so "plugged in" that we forget to "unplug" so that we can recharge our internal battery. So whether you already have a solid routine in place, or are just getting started. Here are a few ideas that may inspire you to take your self-care to the next level.

Watch a Sunset

There's something so peaceful about watching the sun set in the evening. Although, it's been happening since the beginning of time, it's still miraculous. Make a moment of it, make a cup of tea and put on some comfy slippers and watch the sunset as you reflect.

Journal

Life can be so busy at times that we forget to take a moment to reflect on our day. What did we learn? What were we reminded of? What are we grateful for? Each day comes with its own agenda, but if we are not deliberate about our growth...we can miss gems.

Soak in the Tub

Fill up the tub with some water, but add some rose petals, Epsom salt or bubble bath with a nice smell into the tub too. Give your muscles time to unwind from the day. Allow your senses to renew as you feel the bubbles embrace you, and inhale the aroma from the bath. Give your mind some time to catch up with your body, by taking time in this moment.

De-Clutter a Space

Create a space in you home, where you can sit and relax. Remove anything that doesn't need to be in your space. You can decorate this area, but keep it functional, so that it is inviting. For instance, adding a bookshelf, may encourage you to read. Adding decorative candles and plants helps to makes the space inviting.

Meal Prep

Now I know that this may seem like a daunting task, however, it can become something that is relaxing and enjoyable. It is all in how you look at it. First of all it is important to understand that food is our fitness pal. It goes hand-in-hand with what we get from our weekly workouts. The way that we eat has more of an effect than our workouts. We can exercise away an unhealthy diet. At best we may get 6 hours (and one rest day) of physical activity in each week. How many meals are we getting or missing each week? Turn on that playlist and make it an event, not a task. Learn a new recipe or buy a new kitchen gadget, make it fun.

Create Something

You don't have to be an artist to be able to enjoy drawing, painting, or coloring. Try a new hobby. Try growing some flowers or learn to do something with your hands that you find relaxing.

Meditate

Meditation doesn't have to be weird like the stereotype, and there are many ways that one can meditate. For example, have you ever done something as mundane as washing dishes? Well, you can use this time to meditate on your day. If you enjoy gardening, you can meditate as you are caring for your plants. You can also be still and sit, as you reset your body and your mind. Meditation helps to calm the chaos in our minds, so that we become effective at whatever we do.

Get Cute

Wear something that you feel beautiful in. This is a simple way to celebrate all of those workouts that you have been putting your body through, as well as all of those clean meals that you have been eating. Find the color and cut of an outfit that bring our your curves and your smile; wear that thing sis!

Make a playlist

How many times have you listened to a song that took you back to a place? Music has the power to transform and transcend. So make a list of about 10- 12 songs that take you to place where a smile comes to you face. Think of songs that make you want to dance like nobody is watching.

Call a friend or family member

You know that person that you don't connect with often, but every time you connect you talk for hours? Call that person. Life is too short and too precious to not pick up the phone. I recently did a zoom coffee call with a friend, and it was so refreshing. So call someone that you care about, and enjoy this time with them.

Get Moving Girl

Engage in an activity that you enjoy. Hiking, dancing, or dance while hiking, it doesn't matter--just enjoy it.
