3 Simple Ways To Crush Sugar Cravings

Updated: Aug 12, 2020

Break- Fast the Right Way

Unless you eat every few hours each and every night you are having breakfast EVERY DAY... even if you first meal isn't until 12 pm. My husband is often out early and so busy with work that he doesn't eat until 1 or 2 o'clock in the afternoon. This just means that his "break- fast" is in the afternoon. That being said, whenever you have your first meal of the day, you want to fill it with nourishing food to help you get your day started. For example, having scrambled eggs with avocado toast and 1 cup of fruit will provide your body with the energy you need while enjoying mental clarity and productivity.

Create New Coping Strategies

Okay, so I know that "desserts" is "stressed" spelled backwards, but that doesn't mean that we should run to the sweets every time we feel stressed. I have struggled with stress eating for years until I learned how to deal with my triggers. I had to find way to cope with the stress in order to stop "stuffing" food until the pain went away. One of the things that helped me is brain storming on paper to figure out solutions, or keeping a journal to help me manage my thoughts. Here are a few coping strategies I share with my clients and have also helped me:

  1. Breathing exercises

  2. De-clutter you home, car, or desk

  3. Aromatherapy

  4. Listen to soothing music

  5. Journal thoughts

Build "smart" meals

A "smart" meal, is a meal that satisfies the body and helps to keep the mind focused as well. For instance, if I were to just have a bagel in the morning to get my day started. I may find myself hungry within an hour or two and not being able to focus because ALL I CAN THINK OF IS EATING. A bagel now and then is fine by me, however I recommend having a sensible sized bagel with an egg and 1/2 of an avocado. This is a "smart" meal because of the macro nutrients or protein, carbohydrate, and fat helps you to feel satisfied longer and keep blood sugar stable. When we build a meal this way, we tend to snack less- which can help us drop a few unwanted pounds.
