Stress LESS- Chill MORE


Don't worry... I don't live under a rock. I know "don't stress" is easier said than done, but it is possible to teach your body how NOT to remain in a stressed state all day long and not have to battle with anxiety. When our bodies remain in a stressed state, the hormone, cortisol is then elevated. Once cortisol is elevated for extended periods of time, then our insulin levels are also elevates ( hence the stress eating). Which means if we don't get this under control we can accumulate weight gain in our mid-section and it can be extremely difficult to drop even a pound once our bodies have been stress like this for so long. Trust me, I've eaten countless cakes, cookies, and bags of chips from what felt like insurmountable levels of stress. I had to learn how to deal with the stress and NOT let stress have me. Instead of getting all worked up, practice things like meditation, breathing exercises, or speaking with someone who can help you process those thoughts that may be stressing you out.




Eat Whole


I'm sure you've probably heard that we should eat every 3-4 hours and that's of okay. However, eating more often should not give us a license to eat anything. We we eat more wholesome foods, our bodies actually function better and we feel like moving more. Eating wholesome foods like nuts and seeds, fresh fruit and veggies- we give our bodies the nutrients it needs to not only achieve healthier bodies, but also burn fat more efficiently.

Lift Something


So I have this conversation a lot - especially with my female clients. Lifting weight in general is not going to make you bulky. Unlike the fellas -we don't have enough testosterone to put on mass amounts of muscle. Not only that, but we don't eat enough either to build this type of frame. In general. every 1 pound of muscle burns about 50 calories per day. So if you put on 5 pounds of muscle in 1 month ( which is not easy for us girls) you would burn an additional 250 calories/ day. This is where "calories in- calories out" goes out the window. When we train our bodies with fat- burning exercises- we can literally burn stubborn body fat all day long. This gives us that sexy toned body and we don't have to starve ourselves to achieve it.

I know sleep can often be looked at as the most unproductive thing you can do, but without proper sleep, you body's ability to function at it best declines. Imagine not charging your cell phone the night before. You may be able to get through the day with your phone " half charged" but it won't be long before you are no longer to do what you need to do with a dad battery. Like the cell phone, our bodies can operate like machine when we get adequate sleep. Our brains not only function better, but out bodies have had time to heal from the day before. As a result, the work we put into achieving our fitness goals, are more successful. Aim to get 7-8 hours of 'shut- eye' each night for optimum results.





Eat More FAT



I know we have been told that "fat " is bad, but not all fat is created equal. In fact, there are some vitamins like vitamins A,D,E, and K that can't be absorbed without fat. food like avocados, olive oil, and coconut oils are not just good for us, but they give our bodies the ability to burn stubborn body fat. I have been on the ketogenic diet for 6 months now and I feel so much better than I did when I ate more carbs. Yes, our bodies uses carbs for energy, but we don't need as many carbs as we have been told. Since being keto body body now uses my own fat storage for energy instead of having to "refuel" my body with a carb every 3-4 hours. Don't get me wrong, after a workout, I still eat about 4 hours after. However, I can also go 5 hours without feeling hangry ( hungry and angry). My body will just snack on my own fat storage until I eat my next meal. This has really changed the game for me, because my life is not tied to my next meal. I eat 3-4 meals a day and my body is so much tighter that I was last year.

In other words, my life of 2-3 workouts /day, training clients, raising 5 kids, married life, being active in dance ministry, and not getting more than 6 hours of sleep each night- had finally caught up to me.
